Why should you join ASPIRE Toastmasters?

Because confident, charismatic leaders weren't born that way! It takes practice skills and confidence.

Become the speaker and leader you want to be. As you progress in Toastmasters, you'll get to practice your skills by organizing and conducting meetings and motivating others to help you. Become a better negotiator. Gain trust. Inspire your team.

Toastmasters will give you the skills and confidence you need to express yourself effectively in any situation. Whether you are a professional, student, stay-at-home parent or retired, Toastmasters is the most efficient, enjoyable and affordable way of gaining great communication skills. You'll learn how to:

  • Formulate and express your ideas effectively
  • Be more persuasive and confident when giving presentations
  • Improve your one-on-one dealings with others

Toastmasters is a place where we develop and grow - both personally and professionally.

At Toastmasters meetings we learn by doing. Whether you're an executive or a stay-at-home parent, you will build skills to express yourself in a variety of situations. You'll open up a world of new possibilities: giving better work presentations; leading and participating in meetings more confidently; speaking off the cuff more smoothly; even handling one-on-one interactions with family, friends and colleagues.

How it works

In a club meeting, you practice giving prepared speeches as well as brief impromptu presentations, known as Table Topics. Constructive evaluation is central to the Toastmasters philosophy. Each time you speak, an evaluator will point out strengths as well as suggest improvements. Receiving and giving such feedback is a great learning experience. In Toastmasters, encouragement and improvement go hand-in-hand.

Guest are always welcome and never pressured to speak.

About Us

Toastmasters is the world's largest leadership and public speaking club.

Started in 1924 by Ralph C. Smedley, Toastmasters has grown into an international organization with clubs worldwide. Currently the Toastmasters' membership exceeds 357,000 in more than 16,600 clubs in 143 countries.

The Toastmasters Mission is a statement of shared values. Every Toastmasters club and especially ASPIRE, share the same mission, clearly defined in the following mission statement:

We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.

ASPIRE Toastmasters is a welcoming community of business owners, leaders, students and more. Chartered in 2019 it has been very successful. In its first year it achieved the level of "President’s Distinguished Club" achieving 10 out of 10 points in the "Distinguished Club Program". A major achievement for a club so young. Even though it's a new club ASPIRE has several members who have been in Toastmasters for several years.

All the members are keen and excited to improve their skills and help others. Whether you are a new or experienced speaker, ASPIRE Toastmasters has plenty to offer.

What to expect at a typical meeting

The first thing that anyone should know about attending a Toastmasters club for the first time, is that every club is different.

While we all follow the same Pathways Learning Experience (our educational program), many clubs run their meetings differently.

In a typical meeting at ASPIRE you will hear prepared speeches, Table Topics (small speeches where we practice speaking off-the-cuff), evaluations, jokes, a prayer (we are a multi faith community) and a lot of clapping (we clap a lot).

Some visitors will be surprised at the amount of applauding that goes on. We applaud almost everything. This may seem weird at first but it is a proven technique to help build our member’s self-confidence. Where else but Toastmasters do you get immediate recognition for trying something, whether you do it well or not? We recognize the effort that you put into something.

When you are a visitor you can expect to be asked to introduce yourself. Tell us who you are, and what brought you to the meeting. Don’t worry about how you will do. Toastmasters are very supportive to their guests and fellow members and there is no expectation that you will excel at the role. But maybe you will! However, if you do not feel comfortable to speak, please let the Chair (the person leading the evening's meeting) know in a private chat.

Towards the end of the meeting you will be asked for your comments on what you thought of the meeting and you will be invited to speak to the VP of Membership privately, where they will answer any questions and invite you back to the next meeting.
